weil, dass, wenn: verb to the end

After weil, dass, wenn, ob, obwohl, als… the verb goes to the end.

After a subordinating conjunction the conjugated verb goes to the end of the clause: Ich lerne Deutsch, weil ich in Berlin arbeite.

  • weil because · dass that · wenn if / whenever · ob whether
  • obwohl although · als when (one event in the past) · bevor before · nachdem after

If the subordinate clause comes first, the main clause starts with its verb: Wenn es regnet, bleibe ich zu Hause. Careful: denn (because) does not move the verb.
