Separable verbs

aufstehen, einkaufen, anrufen: the prefix jumps to the end of the sentence.

Many verbs have a prefix such as an-, auf-, aus-, ein-, mit-, ab-, zu-, fern-. In the present tense the prefix goes to the end: anrufen → Ich rufe dich morgen an.

With a modal verb the verb stays together at the end: Ich muss dich anrufen. In the perfect tense, ge goes in the middle: angerufen, aufgestanden, eingekauft.
